Denon

Denon's heritage extends back to the dawn of music reproduction. Denon was the brand name of Nippon Columbia, Ltd. Founded in 1910, Nippon Columbia was both the first record company in Japan and the first audio company in Japan.
Nippon Columbia is one of the few companies that can trace its ancestry to both Columbia and Gramophone. It was the Gramophone group that founded Denon's parent company as Japan Gramophone, in 1910. An important early product was the world's first electric direct drive turntable, in 1939.
In 1951, Nippon Columbia developed the world's first stereo moving-coil cartridge. As home audio began to grow, Nippon Columbia decided to create a new brand of consumer and pro audio products, adopting the brand used for professional products since 1938, Denon. The name is a contraction of the Japanese words for electricity, "denshi", and sound, "onkyo" (no relation to the brand with this name). Denon quickly became synonymous with high- fidelity excellence.
In 1971 Denon commenced sales of hi-fi audio components, including turntables, amplifiers, tuners and loudspeakers. In 1982 the inaugural sales of the world's first CD led the industry in the introduction of consumer-use CD players. In 1995 Denon developed the world's first home theatre system to support Dolby AC-3 and THX 5.1.
The year 2000 marked the 90th anniversary of Denon and its parent company, Nippon Columbia Co., Ltd.
In 2002, a new era for digital connections is formed with the introduction of the DENON LINK technology, which enables high-speed, high-grade, multi-channel digital signal transmission.
Today, Denon continues to introduce the most innovative audio/video products with the latest technologies, superb craftsmanship and leading performance worldwide. The company is one of the world's most diversified specialist audio and home theatre providers who offer consumers and professionals superior sound and images, advanced reliability and unrivaled usability.
