Wharfedale Diamond 12.4 2.5-Way Floorstanding Speakers offers a high-end soundstage for your home theatre surround sound and stereo system. The Diamond 12.4 features an intelligent design and premium components that reduce sound colouration while delivering a lighting-fast response. It houses a 1-inch textile dome tweeter and two 6-inch PP cone drivers powering up to 200 Watts, effortlessly filling medium to a large room.

The 25mm dome tweeter is crafted from a woven polyester film with a high-loss coating, ensuring open and smoothly extended high frequencies. The magnet system and front plate have been optimized for wide dispersion and distortion-free performance. The flat front plate exposes the dome to its fullest, with only a short duct used to balance the acoustic load and enhance the sound pressure level (SPL) measurements.

The crossover network features an acoustic LKR 24dB topology, incorporating air-core inductors typically found in high-end speakers. These inductors were chosen for their ability to produce the lowest distortion compared to other types. Due to the higher resistance of the coil, the magnetic structure of the mid/bass driver has been adjusted to compensate, ensuring fast, clean bass without any distortion from the inductor.

The rear-ported enclosure of the DIAMOND 12.1 is meticulously sized to ensure the internal volume works in perfect harmony with the drive unit system for the intended sonic performance. A multi-layered sandwich construction minimizes the cabinet’s distinctive "sound." Even the resonant properties of the glue used between the layers were carefully measured to achieve the optimal combination for enhanced sound quality.

The voice coil is wound on a high-power epoxy/glass fiber bobbin, a feature rarely found in speakers at this price range. This design eliminates eddy currents and offers superior power handling compared to an aluminum bobbin, while also being significantly stiffer than the Kapton bobbins commonly seen in this price class.

Inside the cabinet, Intelligent Spot Bracing uses a specially designed wooden brace to connect opposite walls, effectively reducing cabinet resonance. These braces are precisely modeled using computer simulation to improve on the traditional ‘figure of eight’ brace, which can often just transfer resonance from one wall to another, ensuring more accurate and controlled sound.
