Yamaha RX500A 7.2 Ch 8K Network AV Receiver

Yamaha RX500A 7.2 Ch 8K Network AV Receiver is designed for customers ready to move beyond entry-level surround sound without making everyday operation complicated. It combines seven-channel amplification with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X processing, giving movies and games greater scale while allowing several speaker layouts to suit the available room. High-bandwidth HDMI connectivity supports 4K120, 8K60 and advanced HDR formats for compatible televisions, projectors and gaming hardware. When the screen is off, integrated Wi-Fi streaming, Bluetooth Multipoint and high-resolution network audio support turn the receiver into a central music source for the household. Automatic room correction and guided setup reduce installation uncertainty, helping owners enjoy a more complete home theatre experience with less time spent adjusting technical settings.

Key Features

  • Seven Powered Channels — Provides greater speaker-layout flexibility than a standard five-channel AV receiver.
  • True 5.1.2 Atmos Capability — Powers two dedicated height speakers without requiring an external power amplifier.
  • Extensive DTS Decoding — Adds DTS:X, DTS-HD Master Audio and other advanced DTS formats for broader soundtrack compatibility.
  • High-Frame-Rate HDMI — Supports compatible 4K120 gaming and 8K60 video through all four HDMI inputs.
  • Wi-Fi and Ethernet Networking — Enables stable access to streaming services and compatible local network audio.
  • Dual Subwoofer Connections — Allows two powered subwoofers to be integrated into the home theatre system.
  • Automatic Acoustic Adjustment — Helps balance speaker output according to the installed room and listening position.
A Flexible Foundation for a Larger Speaker System

Unlike a five-channel receiver, the RX500A gives owners seven powered speaker outputs. These can be used for conventional rear surround channels or assigned to two height speakers for a 5.1.2 Dolby Atmos system. Dolby Surround and DTS Neural:X can also expand suitable conventional audio across the installed speaker layout, helping television programs, streamed content and older film soundtracks make fuller use of the system. Bi-amp capability provides another configuration option for compatible front speakers when the selected layout permits it.

Guided Installation
The on-screen setup process assists with connecting speakers, selecting inputs and configuring the main sound settings.

Listening Modes for Every Occasion
Pure Direct, Stereo, Movie, Music, All Channel Stereo and Night modes provide quick options for focused music sessions, cinematic playback or quieter evening viewing.

Entertainment Across Two Areas
Zone B operation allows compatible speaker playback in a secondary listening area when the amplifier and speaker configuration are arranged accordingly.

High-Bandwidth Connections for a Modern Entertainment System

The HDMI section accommodates four source devices and sends video to a television or projector through one HDMI output. Every system can be organised around one central switching point, reducing the need to change television inputs independently. eARC returns compatible television audio to the receiver, while HDCP 2.3, CEC and automatic lip sync provide supporting compatibility. Two analogue RCA inputs, optical and coaxial digital inputs, front USB playback and a headphone output also allow older and non-HDMI equipment to remain part of the system.

Engineered to Keep Sound and Video Consistent

Internal component placement, signal routing and heat management have been developed around reliable audio and HDMI performance. A large heat sink positioned over the HDMI section helps control operating temperature around sensitive circuitry. Under the chassis, the A.R.T. Wedge works as a fifth support point between the four main feet, helping disperse mechanical vibration that could affect sound accuracy. These refinements are not immediately visible from the listening position, but they contribute to dependable long-term operation and a stable presentation.

Technical FAQs

Is the Yamaha RX500A suitable for both films and music?

Yes. Dolby Atmos and DTS:X handle immersive film and gaming soundtracks, while Pure Direct and two-channel Stereo modes provide more focused playback for music. Integrated Spotify Connect, AirPlay 2, Google Cast, TIDAL Connect and Qobuz Connect also allow music to be played without attaching a separate network streamer.

How many HDMI products can be connected?

Up to four HDMI source devices can be connected at the same time, with one HDMI output feeding a compatible television or projector. Typical sources could include a game console, media streamer, Blu-ray player and set-top box. HDMI eARC can carry compatible television audio back to the RX500A through the output connection.

Does the receiver require a wired internet connection?

No. The RX500A includes both Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity, so it can join a home network wirelessly or through a network cable. Ethernet may provide greater connection stability where convenient, while Wi-Fi can simplify installation when the router is located away from the entertainment cabinet.
